5 Teachers At Matero Boys Secondary School Suspended Over theft of funds
By Kasabula Muchimba
Five teachers, including the Headteacher, at Matero Boys Secondary School in Lusaka, have been suspended with immediate effect.
This is in order to pave the way for investigations into the alleged theft of over 700,000 Kwacha in registration fees for this year’s 2025 GCE examinations at the school.
Lusaka District Education Board Secretary, IAN MIYOBA has confirmed, saying auditors will start going through the school’s accounts, effective tomorrow, Tuesday, March 18, 2025
Mr MIYOBA also says prior to the theft, his office had cautioned the school over delays in registering candidates for the examinations.
And Mr MIYOBA has confirmed receiving reports that some teachers at named schools in Lusaka, including Matero Boys, have been illegally selling pupils places.
Meanwhile, Education Permanent Secretary, KELVIN MAMBWE says such practices undermine the integrity of the free education system and deny deserving students access to education.
