Vandalism of Elecritic Cables at Lusaka Hospital Puts Lives at Risk
By Masauso Mkwayaya
A power outage caused by vandalism has affected some services at the National Heart Hospital.
Hospital Senior Medical Superintendent, CHABWERA SHUMBA says seven patients, were unable to undergo their renal dialysis sessions due the power outage.
Dr. SHUMBA says the dialysis machines, which rely on electricity, could not function due to the outage.
In an interview with ZNBC News, Dr. SHUMBA explained that ZESCO reconnected the hospital to an alternative line with lower voltage, which was insufficient to power the machines.
He added that the hospital has put in place alternative power sources to allow Renal dialysis services to resume this afternoon.
Dr. SHUMBA also assured that other patients were not in immediate danger and that ZESCO has been engaged to resolve the issue.
He has appealed to the public to refrain from vandalizing electricity installations, as such acts disrupt the effective delivery of life-saving medical services.
