UN concerned with Unsustainable Debt in LDC
By Sharon Kunda
The United Nations Office of the High Representative for Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States -UN-OHRLLS- has noted with concern the unsustainable debt levels among least developed countries.
UN Under-Secretary-General and High Representative Rabab Fatima says a declining development assistance is severely constraining fiscal space for sustainable development.
Ms. Fatima has since called for integration of the Doha Programme of Action into its national development strategies as a critical step in addressing the challenges.
The Doha Programme of Action is a ten-year initiative to support the sustainable development of Least Developed Countries -focusing on addressing challenges such as COVID-19 and climate change.
Ms. Fatima said this at the annual meeting of the Least Developed Countries National Focal Points in Lusaka today.
And Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister Mulambo Haimbe noted that it is increasingly evident that most Least Developed Countries face significant challenges in attaining the Sustainable Development Goals.
