The Director of Public Prosecutions -DPP- says the establishment of prison mobile courts will help reduce transportation costs and security risks associated with prisoner movement.
In a speech read on his behalf by the Acting Chief Administrator at the National Prosecution Authority CASSANDRA SOKO, Director of Public Prosecutions GILBERT PHIRI said the prison mobile courts will help bring justice directly to the source, streamlining court processes and reducing a backlog of cases involving incarcerated individuals.
This was during the launch of a pilot project on prison mobile courts at Kamfinsa Correctional Facility in Kitwe.
And Irish Rule of Law Country Director for Zambia and Tanzania NORVILLE CONNOLLY said the prison mobile court at Kamfinsa correctional facility will help bring justice for prisoners.
Zambia Correctional Service Deputy Commissioner General BWALYA KUYOMBA reaffirmed the service’s dedication to ensure that all individuals regardless of their circumstances receive timely and fair judicial processes.
Speaking at the same function, Kitwe Judge In Charge Justice CHARLES CHANDA said mobile courts will bring justice to inmates right where they are detained.
And Legal Aid Board Director HUMPHREY MWEEMBA also said inmates will not be overlooked with the initiative.
