
MUNIR ZULU sentenced to 12 months with hard labour

Lumezi Independent Member of Parliament MUNIR ZULU has been sentenced to 12 months imprisonment with hard labour after being found guilty of libel.
This is in a matter where Mr ZULU is facing 3 counts of Libel defamation for allegedly defaming Finance and National Planning Minister SITUMBEKO MUSOKOTWANE and his Housing, Infrastructure and Urban Development counterpart CHARLES MILUPI.
He is also accused of defaming Road Development Agency –RDA- Board Chairperson MULCHAND KUNTAWALA.
Chief Resident Magistrate DAVIES CHIBWILI ruled that he is satisfied that Mr ZULU is the one who published the defamatory matter against the complainants.
It is alleged in count one, that Mr. ZULU published defamatory matter through a press conference which he held at parliament on March 21, 2023 stating that Dr. MUSOKOTWANE received a corrupt transfer of $250,000 from an unknown company.
It is alleged in the second count that Mr. ZULU at the same press briefing, accused Mr. MILUPI of equally receiving the same amount through a bank transfer.
In the third count it is alleged that Mr ZULU on March 21, 2023 said Mr. KUNTAWALA gave Mr MILUPI 150,000 US Dollars, so that he could secure the position of Board Chairperson for the Road Development Agency -RDA-.
