Traditional leaders advised to propose amendments
Government has urged the house of Chiefs to take advantage of the proposed constitutional amendment process to propose the necessary adjustment of article 165 which governs the institution of chieftaincy and traditional institutions.
Local Government Permanent Secretary for Technical Services NICHOLAS PHIRI says this is critical to ensuring that legal frameworks governing Chieftaincy align with traditional practices.
Mr PHIRI said this at the 5th Meeting of the House of Chiefs being held in Lusaka today.
He said the alignment will also seek to address succession disputes which have led to lives being lost.
Meanwhile, Chief MADZIMAWE of Kasenengwa district has called for the involvement of the traditional leadership in the legislative processes to ensure that their interests are considered.
