Sports Minister Decries Stadium Vandalism
By Chansa Kunda
Government has condemned the behaviour of Nkana Football Club supporters, who resorted to damaging infrastructure at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola after their team’s One all draw against Power Dynamos.
More than 500 seats at the stadium were uprooted and damaged during yesterday’s Kitwe derby.
Sports Minister ELVIS NKANDU says scenes from yesterday’s game were horrific adding that it is sad that Zambians could behave in such a way towards their own facility.
NKANDU said it is sad to note that when Government is making headway towards sport infrastructure development, fans can resort to damaging property.
He said the damages incurred are a drawback as the stadium is the country’s only CAF sanctioned venue to hold international matches.
NKANDU said a lot of money will be used to repair the damaged property.
He said Government will see to it that security is enhanced at every stadium to avoid such a recurrence.
