Munir Zulu Denied Bail Pending Appeal
By Memory Bbuku
Former Lumezi Member of Parliament, MUNIR ZULU, has been denied bail pending appeal by the Lusaka Magistrate Court.
Lusaka Chief Resident Magistrate, DAVIS CHIBWILI, has ruled that Mr. ZULU failed to present any special or compelling reasons to justify his release.
Magistrate CHIBWILI also expressed doubt over the grounds of appeal, saying they were unlikely to succeed.
Mr. ZULU was sentenced on April 7th to 12 months in prison for libel, after defaming two Cabinet Ministers and the Road Development Agency Board Chairperson.
He has since appealed the sentence in the High Court but remains in custody as the appeal process continues.
