CSOs call for electoral court
By Mary Kachepa
The Consortium of Civil Society Organisations has called on Chief Justice MUMBA MALILA to prioritise the establishment of a specialised Electoral Court as a division of the High Court ahead of the 2026 General elections.
Consortium Chairperson, ISAAC MWANZA says Civil Society Organisations believe an electoral court will help ensure that disputes are handled expeditiously, transparently and with the necessary technical expertise.
He said Zambia continues to consolidate its democracy, timely and credible resolution of electoral conflicts is vital for public trust in democratic processes.
Mr MWANZA also appealed to Zambia’s cooperating partners to consider funding the establishment and operationalisation of the Electoral Court.
He further requested for the training of specialised judges and magistrates for the same Courts as a key priority area of support.
Mr MWANZA said such investment will support broader judicial reform efforts critical to the protection of democracy and the rule of law.
