
Tragic Drowning in Kalomo and Arrest in Livingstone for Suspected Theft
A three-year-old child from Siambala Village in Kalomo District has drowned in a two-meter-deep water well.
Southern Province Police Commanding Officer Auxensio Daka confirmed the incident, which is believed to have occurred on Saturday, April 27, 2025, between 06:00 and 09:00 hours.
Mr. Daka stated that Kalomo police received a report from the deceased’s father, Laston Muleya, who discovered the body of his three-year-old son, Neve Muleya, floating in a water well approximately 100 meters from their home.
Mr. Muleya reported that the deceased had been left in the care of his 10-year-old brother while he and his wife went to the field to harvest maize.
Mr. Daka added that no foul play is suspected and that the child is expected to be buried on Monday, April 28.
Meanwhile, Livingstone police have arrested a 39-year-old man from Nkana West in Kitwe after he was found with six phones, suspected to have been stolen or unlawfully obtained.
Southern Province Police Commanding Officer Auxensio Daka identified the suspect as Sylvester Malekani.
Mr. Daka revealed that during interrogation, Malekani admitted that he was part of a group that traveled from Copperbelt and Lusaka Provinces to Livingstone to engage in theft during the Mosi Day of Thunder festival.
