ZESCO loses K4m to vandalism
By Fortune Malata
ZESCO has disclosed that in the month of June 2024 alone it has lost property valued at over 4 million Kwacha due to acts of vandalism and theft countrywide.
This has been attributed to an increase in the number of unscrupulous people who have taken advantage of the power rationing to commit thefts.
ZESCO Spokesperson MATONGO MAUMBI has told #ZNBCNews in an interview that the utility has recorded a 14 percent increase in vandalism.
Mr. MAUMBI said reported cases have increased to 805 in the month of June compared to the 562 recorded in May this year.
He, however, said despite this the company continues to make strides in combating vandalism to its infrastructure through patrols and arrests.
