“Give us the AFRICOM location”
By Ruth Chayinda
Retired Army Officer specialized in Military and Civil Intelligence Colonel HAMWIINDE MUNAMUNUNGU has challenged those claiming that the country has an AFRICOM base to provide the grid coordinates and location so that it can be verified.
Colonel MUNAMUNUNGU says this will help put the matter to rest as Zambia Army and government officials can physically examine the location as there is no evidence of an AFRICOM base in Zambia.
He has also dispelled allegations by opposition parties and some sections of society stating that the current government has agreed to station American troops in Zambia without parliamentary approval.
Colonel MUNAMUNUNGU, who was also District Governor in the Second Republic says it is unfortunate that the unsubstantiated issue was raised in parliament.
In a statement issued to ZNBC News, Col MUNAMUNUNGU says the US military has troops visiting Zambia’s Kenneth Kaunda Peace Support Training Centre to teach skills to peacekeeping forces, all of which have been invited by the government and the Defence Force
He says Zambia has much to benefit from its cooperation with the US and United Nations programmes.
Col MUNAMUNUNGU says the Zambia military cooperation with the U.S. government began around 15 years ago under the PF administration and has continued under the UPND New Dawn administration.
