NAPSA to Invest $200m into Maamba Collieries Project
By Ruth Chayinda
Maamba Collieries Limited Regional Director ASHWIN DEVENIN expressed optimism that the 400 million dollar expansion project will reach financial closure by the end of this month.
He says NAPSA is expected to inject 200 million dollars of the 400 million dollars required for the construction and commencement of the expansion project.
Mr DEVENIN says talks have advanced and a contract will soon be signed.
He said this when the Special Assistant to the President for Finance and Investments JITO KAYUMBA visited the facility today.
Mr DEVENIN said the company is ready to construct the power plant and commission it by August 2026.
And Mr KAYUMBA said the expansion of the Maamba collieries, bringing total power generation to 600 mega watts, will help mitigate electricity challenges and ensure sufficient power.
Mr KAYUMBA said the expansion of the Maamba collieries speaks to the Government’s determination to diversify the country’s power mix and generation.
