Kabuswe denounces violence by small scale miners in Chingola
Government has denounced violent behaviour by some small scale miners in Chingola on the Copperbelt.
This follows a disagreement with China Copper mine over ownership of OB 16 dumpsite.
Mines Minister PAUL KABUSWE says the UPND government was voted into government to end violent behaviour in the mining sector on the Copperbelt particularly among small scale miners.
Speaking during a meeting with China Copper mines and small scale miners in Chingola, Mr KABUSWE said dialogue between small scale miners and the investors on existing dumpsites on the Copperbelt is the key to bringing sanity.
Mr. KABUSWE also called on the Mines and small scale miners to find a way to work together in a formal manner.
And Copperbelt Province Minister ELISHA MATAMBO said that the Copperbelt cannot afford to go back to the time of violent behaviour.
Mr MATAMBO said UPND government is a government of peace and will ensure peace prevails on the Copperbelt.
And Chingola Member of Parliament, CHIPOKA MULENGA said government wants to formalise mining operations of small scale miners.
Meanwhile, Small Scale miners in Chingola have praised government for resolving the problem between them and the mine.
