Zambia assumes Vice Chair position for African Union Specialized Technical Committee
Zambia has assumed the position of First Vice Chairperson of the African Union Specialized Technical Committee –STC- on Social Development, Labour, and Employment.
During the Fifth Ordinary Session of the Specialized Technical Committee held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Zambia was selected to represent the Southern Region Bureau.
Others in the Bureau are Chad, and Uganda.
The Northern and Western Regions have yet to nominate their representatives for their respective Bureaus.
Labour and Social Security Minister BRENDA TAMBATAMBA has expressed gratitude that Zambia has been nominated as 1st Vice Chairperson of the Southern Region Bureau.
Ms. TAMBATAMBA says it is important for Africa to adopt strategies and policy measures to enhance social development, labour, and employment at continental and regional levels.
She is confident that the Specialized Technical Committee will consider concrete roadmaps aimed at implementing policies and strategies on social protection, the social and solidarity economy, labour migration, youth employment, child marriage, Female Genital Mutilation, and ending exploitation and abuse of children.
While in Addis Ababa, the Minister also visited the construction site for the New Embassy building scheduled to be completed before the end of the year.
In her address to Embassy staff, Ms TAMBATAMBA said it was important to align all duties at the mission to the 8th National Development Plan.
And Zambian Embassy Charge D’Affaires TOM MICHELO has thanked the Minister for taking the time to talk to staff.
