China Non-Ferrous Mining Corporation -CNMC- says it is installing seven pumps at 28-Shaft to speed up the pumping of water from the mine.
CNMC Chairperson WENG GANG says of the seven, some have already been installed, while others will be installed soon.
Mr. WENG says so far 14 million cubic meters of water has been pumped and the company is targeting to finish the remaining 130 million cubic meters soon.
He says preparatory work has since started so that mining activities could start once the pumping of water is completed.
Speaking during a meeting with President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA in Beijing, China, Mr. WENG reiterated the company’s investment of 1.3 billion dollars in 28 Shaft for the next five years.
And President HICHILEMA has thanked the company for its commitment to revive the 28 Shaft.
He said the mine is vital to Zambia’s dream of increasing copper production.
The President has since asked CNMC to undertake exploration works in their mining licence areas.
President HICHILEMA said exploration works will now be easy for investors as government is undertaking the aerial mineral mapping survey that will provide vital information on the minerals that the country has.
