Govt releases K68.5 for Cash for Work
Government says the release of 68.5 million Kwacha by the Treasury for the Cash for Work programme is a demonstration that the government is committed to alleviating the challenges faced by citizens as a result of the recent drought.
Finance Minister SITUMBEKO MUSOKOTWANE, says the Cash for Work Programme is targeted at putting money in the pockets of viable but vulnerable citizens, while engaging them to do labour intensive community projects.
Dr MUSOKOTWANE said this as he reflected on the 15.3 billion Kwacha August, 2024, budget releases for public service delivery and developmental programmes.
In the revised 2024 Budget, 2 billion Kwacha has been reserved for the Cash for Work Programme as one of the steps aimed at alleviating the drought induced income generating challenges which many viable but vulnerable citizens are facing.
And Dr MUSOKOTWANE has announced that the 2025 National Budget will be presented on Friday 27th September, 2024.
And, Dr. MUSOKOTWANE said that of the 15.3 billion, 1.3 billion Kwacha went to transfers and social benefits, while 808.8 million Kwacha was spent on capital expenditure.
He says 2.6 billion Kwacha was channelled towards the implementation of various Government programmes and general operations.
Dr MUSOKOTWANE adds that 5.2 billion Kwacha went to the public service wage bill 5.4 billion Kwacha was targeted at arrears and debt service both domestic and external.
