ZEMA approves 808 projects worth $4.2bn

The Zambia Environmental Management Agency has approved 808 projects with an investment value of 4.25 billion United States dollars between January and August 2024.
During the same period last year, the agency approved 623 projects at a value of 2.5 billion dollars.
ZEMA Director General GODFREY MWIINGA says this indicates that there is a growing demand for environmental services in the country.
Mr MWIINGA has also disclosed that during the same period, 8 projects were rejected.
He also disclosed that in August the Environmental Assessment Committee considered 125 projects in various sectors with an investment cost of 563 million dollars.
Mr MWIINGA said mining and mineral processing continues to lead with 64 projects, followed by infrastructure development with 22 projects and energy sectors with 21 projects.
He also disclosed that the agency has also approved the construction of two power transmission and distribution lines by ZESCO.
