The Resident Doctors Association of Zambia -RDAZ- has commended the Government for the recruitment of over 4,000 health workers and the promotion of 1,322 existing health personnel this year.
RDAZ President MWEUSHI MPHANDE says the step underscores Government’s continued commitment to enhancing the healthcare delivery system and addressing the pressing healthcare needs of the population.
Dr. MPHANDE says the association has seen a continued increase in the budget allocation towards health from about 9 billion in 2022 to 13 billion in 2023 and an unprecedented 20.9 billion in 2024.
He said this shows good will towards improving the sector, attaining universal health coverage and by so doing, promoting sustainable economic growth.
Dr. MPHANDE said the health sector has faced unprecedented challenges in recent years, and the new health workers signifies a proactive approach towards bolstering healthcare workforce and improving access to essential health services.
He said the new positions will not only help mitigate the current staff shortages but will also enable doctors to provide more comprehensive care to communities.
