More cholera volunteer workers to be recruited – BEYANI
By Sharon Siame
The Civil Service Commission has announced an additional 329 volunteers to be employed in the public service.
This is the third phase of the cholera volunteers’ recruitment process.
Announcing the development during a media briefing in Lusaka today, Civil Service Commission Chairperson CHOOLWE BEYANI said of the 329 to be recruited, 209 are General Workers and 120 professional health workers.
He said the names of the General Workers and the professional health workers will be published in the press tomorrow, Wednesday September 18th, 2024.
Dr. BEYANI said those appearing on the list should collect their appointment letters at the Public Service Management Division –PSMD- offices in Lusaka starting on Thursday September 19th, 2024 and that they must present their National Registration Cards for ease of identification.
He said the development brings the total number of cholera volunteers employed into the public service so far to 1,250.
Dr. BEYANI said that an addition of 1088 jobs will be given to volunteers on contract basis under the category of General Workers due to the slow pace at which spaces were opening up.
He said the Recruitment phase has taken slightly longer due to several factors and that the Recruitment of cholera volunteers is premised on vacancies arising from natural attrition.
Dr. BEYANI said that a total of 670 professional health workers and 85 General workers will remain outstanding after the recruitment.
He said the Commission anticipates that these will be absorbed into the Civil service through the Treasury Authority for the recruitment of 4,000 health workers by the close of 2024.
