“HH must be commended for highlighting gaps in the Constitution”
Governance and Human Rights activist WESLEY MIYANDA says President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA’s call to amend lacunas in the constitution must not be politicised.
In an interview with ZNBC News in LUSAKA today, Mr. MIYANDA has called for level headed and intellectual debates over President HICHILEMA’s opinion on constitutional amendments.
He said the President’s opinion must not be misunderstood as though he desires to extend the Presidential Term of Office beyond five years.
Mr. MIYANDA said lacunas in Article 52 sub-article six of the Constitution must be amended to avoid possible postponement of elections.
Article 52 sub-article six of the Constitution empowers the Electoral Commission of Zambia -ECZ- to call for fresh nominations where a candidate dies, resigns or becomes disqualified after the close of nominations or before the election date.
And the Evangelical Youth Alliance says President HICHILEMA needs to be supported for highlighting the gaps in article 52 (6) of the Republican Constitution of Zambia.
Alliance Executive Director MOSES LUNGU said the Lacunas that President HICHILEMA pointed out need to be corrected because they can affect the election process.
Reverend LUNGU told ZNBC News that all stakeholders should work together and look at how these can be amended.
