Illegal structures demolished

Some illegal structures in Lusaka’s Kanyama Constituency have been demolished by the Zambia National Service officers in order to pave way for the construction of drainage system.
The structures were along the 70 -70 Road.
And Local Government and Rural Development Permanent Secretary MAAMBO HAAMAUNDU wondered why some houses and other structures were not demolished, when government compensated the owners, a long time ago.
Mr. HAAMAUNDU says government wants to ensure that the issue of floods in Kanyama, which also resulted in the area being a Cholera spot, does not recur.
He has appealed to the people in the area to collaborate with Government to ensure that enough land is given to construct the drainage and avoid building illegally.
Mr. HAAMAUNDU said this when he inspected works with Defence Permanent Secretary NORMAN CHIPAKUPAKU, ZNS Commander MALAITI SOLOCHI and officers from the Engineering Institution of Zambia -EIZ.
And Mr. CHIPAKUPAKU said the Ministry has a task to find a lasting solution to the floods which affected people in the area.
Meanwhile, ZNS Commander Lieutenant General MALITI SOLOCHI assured the two permanent Secretaries that the works to rehabilitate and construct the drainage will be completed before schedule.
And EIZ- President, WESLEY KALUBA appealed to engineers to be professional in carrying out their duties.
