ConCourt hails role of Journalists

Constitutional Court Deputy President ARNOLD SHILIMI says journalists play a vital role in a democratic society.
Justice SHILIMI says journalism plays a huge role in shaping a future that is transparent, accountable, and inclusive.
He was speaking during the Media Institute of Southern Africa- MISA Zambia 2024 platinum and golden media awards in Lusaka.
The awards were held under the Empowering future generations through Access to Information -ATI.
Meanwhile, Ministry of Information and Media Permanent Secretary, THABO KAWANA said the media plays a critical role in shaping the nation’s discourse and holding government to account.
Mr. KAWANA explained that this is because access to information is not just a privilege but a fundamental right that fuels an informed and engaged citizenry.
He said the ministry takes pride in collaborating with civil society organizations and non-governmental organizations among other stakeholders in promoting the values of free expression and accurate reporting.
And MISA Zambia Chairperson, LAUREN CHISANGA highlighted the significance of recognizing journalists who are playing a role in sensitising communities on devastating effects of climate change.
