Two illegal miners have died after they were trapped in an old mine in Chief KAINDU’s area in Mumbwa, Central province.
Mumbwa District Commissioner, NAMUKOLO HAYUMBU says the accident happened two days ago and the bodies of the deceased have been retrieved.
Ms HAYUNBU says following restrictions at the Lwili mine, illegal miners have started exploring old mines, but without adhering to safety measures.
She said this today when Mines Permanent Secretary, HAPENGA KABETA paid a courtesy call at her office in Mumbwa.
Dr. KABETA is in the district to check on safety and environmental measures put in place in Mumbwa.
And Dr KABETA says government understands the frustrations of the miners following restrictions at Lwili mine in Nangoma area.
He has stated that exploration activities must be done in a manner that does not put the lives of people at risk.
