Abused Girl Now Under Government Care
By Patricia Banda
Government has taken over the care of a seven-year-old girl who was allegedly sexually abused by her father at the Cancer Diseases Hospital in Lusaka.
Community Development and Social Services Minister, DOREEN MWAMBA says for now the department of child protection will be in charge of the child while she receives treatment.
Mrs. MWAMBA told ZNBC News that investigations will be conducted to find out where the mother and other relatives are, as well as the status of her siblings if she has any.
The Minister has instructed that all places handling children be able to observe guidelines such as mandatory child protection and safeguarding policies in schools, churches, hospitals and orphanages.
She further said that training of teachers, healthcare workers and caregivers will be done to detect and prevent abuse of children before it happens.
A 47-year-old man was yesterday arrested for allegedly sexually abusing his 7-year-old daughter while nursing her at the Cancer Diseases Hospital in Lusaka.
The man was arrested after an alert by other caregivers about his suspicious behaviour as he frequently bathed his daughter late at night, with the child crying excessively.
Police said the Hospital staff conducted a medical examination and confirmed fresh injuries on the child’s private parts.
