
ADB funds Pasture Improvment Programme for the Zambezi Basin
The Programme for Integrated Development and Adaptation to Climate Change -PIDACC – Zambezi Basin- will put up 2,000 hectares of improved pastures in North-Western and Southern Provinces to promote livestock production.
PIDACC National Coordinator SIMUNJI SIMUNJI says the African Development Bank funded project worth 9.2 Million United States Dollars will also increase beef and dairy production in 12 selected operational districts in the two provinces.
Dr. SIMUNJI says the communities in the Zambezi basin of two provinces have been targeted to ensure that they become resilient to climate change.
And Agriculture Permanent Secretary YVONNE MPUNDU says PIDACC project will encourage efficient and increased productivity in livestock, fish farming, and pasture management.
She was speaking at the launch of the PIDACC Project in Livingstone attended by beneficiary communities from Kasiya, Simoonga, and Shungu.
Meanwhile Livingstone District Commissioner EUNICE NAWA says her district was not spared from the effects of climate change hence need to improve the livelihoods of the communities in the Zambezi Basin.
And, Shungu Ward Counsellor SAMSON KANDALA said the effects of climate change have been worsened by Wildlife and Human Conflict in three selected wards.
Mr. KANDALA observed that wildlife have been destroying crops thereby making the situation volatile.
The operational districts for PIDACC Project in Southern Province are Kazungula, Livingstone, Sinazongwe, Gwembe, Chirundu, and Siavonga.
In North Western Province the Project will operate in Manyinga, Kabompo, Zambezi, Chavuma, Ikelengi, and Mwinilunga.
