By Joy Nyambe
President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA says the need for the African continent to push the agenda for early childhood education cannot be overemphasized.
President HICHILEMA says that is why his administration is investing in education, particularly early childhood.
The President, who is also Champion for Foundational Learning, says the continent as a whole must ensure there is a basic minimum policy to open up education.
President HICHILEMA says all the investment that the UPND administration is putting into education will not be beneficial without foundational learning.
The President said this when a delegation from the Association for the Development of Education in Africa -ADEA- called on him at the State House today.
President HICHILEMA assured the delegation that he will do his best as Champion for foundational learning to ensure that as many children as possible go back to school.
And, ADEA Executive Secretary ALBERT NSENGIYUMVWA said the African continent needs to come together to address issues of education.
Mr. NSENGIYUMVWA praised President HICHILEMA, saying since his ascendancy to power, there has been great effort in transforming the education sector.
Meanwhile, African Development Bank-ADB- Division Manager, HENDRINA DOROBA said the bank has set up a fund to promote and finance education.
