The African Union Humanitarian Mission has donated 200,000 dollars to the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) to support Zambia’s efforts in mitigating the effects of drought.
African Union Permanent Representative Ewumbe Monono says the humanitarian gesture is a demonstration of solidarity from other African countries.
Mr. Monono said this during the handover ceremony in Lusaka.
DMMU National Coordinator Gabriel Pollen assured that the government will continue to put measures in place aimed at addressing the effects of the drought.
Dr. Pollen emphasized that despite the country having a maize deficit of 1.5 million tonnes, the government has ensured food security for all citizens.
