The Zambia Army has cautioned scrap metal dealers to exercise caution when handling unfamiliar materials, as they may be explosives known as unexploded ordnances
Zambia Army Spokesman Lieutenant Colonel SYDNEY MWEWA says the Army has noted the increasing risk posed by Unexploded Ordnances that find their way into the hands of scrap metal dealers.
Lieutenant Colonel MWEWA says such materials, if handled by unprofessional people can lead to catastrophic accidents, injuries and even fatalities.
He adds that recently two men of Kapiri Mposhi were injured as a result of mishandling explosives they thought were ordinary scrap materials.
He says it is important for members of the public to report any sightings of Unexploded Ordnances to military establishments or nearest police stations.
This is according to a statement issued to ZNBC news by Lieutenant Colonel MWEWA .
