Army concerned with illegal mining by foreigners
By Christopher Miti
Zambia Army Commander Lieutenant General Geoffrey Zyeele says the army is concerned with illegal immigrants conducting mining operations in the country.
General Zyeele says there is a lot of illegal extraction of minerals by immigrants.
He said some illegal immigrants have a history of being combatants.
General Zyeele was speaking when he paid a courtesy call on Paramount Chief Mpezeni.
The Paramount Chief appealed to the army to work hand in hand with the Department of Immigration to control illegal immigrants.
He said mining activities should be controlled.
Paramount Chief Mpezeni said he is happy with the proactiveness of the Zambia Army in responding to the situation.
Meanwhile, Eastern Province Deputy Permanent Secretary Lewis Mwape urged the army in the province to invest in agriculture.
