AUB Director Calls for Increased Media Collaboration on Climate Change
By Macpherson Mukuka
The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) says the media is vital in debunking misconceptions that link climate change to traditional beliefs.
Speaking to ZNBC News in Dakar, Senegal, during the just-ended 2nd Africa Union of Broadcasting (AUB) Climate Change Summit, UNDRR Head of Channel and Content, Fanny Legella, said rural communities remain highly vulnerable to climate shocks.
Ms. Legella says this is because some communities believe that disasters are caused by natural occurrences.
AUB Director-General, Gregoire Ndjaka, has called for increased media collaboration to effectively disseminate climate change information.
Mr. Ndjaka said that while each location faces unique circumstances, the impact of climate shocks is often similar across regions.
He said there is a need for information sharing to help unaffected areas better prepare for such events.
