By Effie Mphande
Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary for Technical Services KENNEDY LISHIMPI has called for an audit of deaths that occur after surgery.
Dr. LISHIMPI says it is important that the country documents the factors that lead to death before, during and after surgery so that they are addressed.
He says any person who dies after surgery should be made an issue.
Dr. LISHIMPI was speaking when he officially closed the national surgical obstetric and anaesthesia plan revision stakeholders meeting in Lusaka today.
He said the revised peri-operative plan once in place will enable government deliver quality health services in an organised manner.
The Permanent Secretary said the document will ensure that the country does not buy what it does not need.
Earlier, Smile Train Vice President and Regional Director for Africa NKEIRUKA OBI pledged continued support towards the implementation of the peri-operative plan.
Mrs. OBI is optimistic that the peri-operative plan will be a reference point for many countries.
And Centre for Surgical Healthcare Research in Zambia Executive Director EMMANUEL MAKASA is optimistic that the Ministry of Health will continue enabling health professionals deliver quality and timely services to ordinary citizens.
Professor MAKASA has thanked Smile Train for supporting the revision of the national surgical obstetric and anaesthesia plan.
