Cabinet approves the introduction of bills to Parliament
Cabinet has approved, for introduction to Parliament, various proposed pieces of legislation, among them the Penal Code Amendment Bills as well as the ZNBC and IBA Bills.
The decisions were made on Tuesday this week, during a Cabinet meeting chaired by President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA.
This is according to a statement availed to ZNBC news today in Lusaka by Chief Government Spokesperson, CORNELIUS MWEETWA, who is also Information Minister.
Mr MWEETWA said the objectives of this Penal Code Bill is aimed at strengthening the law on expressing or showing hatred, ridicule or contempt for a person or group of persons.
He has added that the ZNBC Bill is aimed at designating the corporation into a public service broadcaster, as well as enhancing revenue sources and accountability in fulfilling its mandate.
Mr MWEETWA also said the IBA Bill is aimed at providing mechanisms, which will strengthen the IBA’s functions, administration and regulation of the broadcasting industry in Zambia.
He has explained that the objectives include enhancing professional, ethical and independence of the media industry.
Other Bills approved are the Plant Health, Zambia Institute of Quantity Surveyors, Green Economy and Climate Change, as well as the Local Authorities Superannuation Fund.
Cabinet also approved the Judiciary Administration, Lands and the Insurance or Tribunal Rules Bills.
