By Joy Nyambe
Cabinet has approved the return of National Service training for youths.
President Hakainde Hichilema says the program will initially start on a voluntary basis but will eventually be compulsory as the economy improves.
President Hichilema has committed to sponsoring 156 youths.
The youths will come from each of the 156 constituencies to go for National Service.
He has also encouraged all business houses to take the same route.
President Hichilema said this when he relaunched the UPND party mobilization exercise at the UPND Secretariat in Lusaka today.
The President has urged UPND members not to relent but to continue mobilizing the party.
President Hichilema says continued mobilization is what pushed the UPND into power after 23 years in the opposition.
The President has also urged party members not to be swayed by social media messages meant to distract them.
President Hichilema said the UPND has achieved so much in the three years of being in power.
UPND Secretary General Batuke Imenda said prayers have been called for tomorrow for God to intervene in the drought crisis.
Mr. Imenda said the vision and dream of the party is being disturbed by the drought, hence the need to seek divine intervention.
Meanwhile, UPND Lusaka Province Chairman Obvious Mwaliteta said the province is proud of President Hichilema’s achievements.
Mr. Mwaliteta said the President’s works have touched many lives.
