Chambeshi Pollution Reduces, Water Stabilises
By Musenge Mulimba
Green Economy and Environment Minister MIKE MPOSHA says the contamination levels from the mine in Chambeshi have reduced and the standard of water normalised.
This is after the Chambeshi Sino Metals Leach tailings dam collapsed.
Mr. MPOSHA says the PH levels have improved to the range of between 6.9 and 7.4 close to the acceptable range of 7 to 8 meaning the water levels are of acceptable standards.
Speaking when he toured the Mine in Chambeshi, Mr. MPOSHA said Government is working to normalise the water situation.
The Minister also directed the Permanent Secretary in his ministry to engage an independent investigator to examine the cause of the accident so that the government can compare results with those of SINO METALS.
Meanwhile SINO METAL LEACH ZAMBIA LIMITED Chairperson ZHANG PEIWEN said the company is doing everything possible to ensure there is no further pollution and side effects from the tailings dam accident.
