Chambishi Pollution: Farmers to Receive Compensation
By Fortune Sinyangwe
Over 200 farmers that were affected by the collapse of the Sino Metals Leach Tailings Dam in Chambeshi will be compensated.
Copperbelt Province Minister ELISHA MATAMBO has since warned imposters that will claim to own farms in the affected areas NOT to attempt.
Mr. MATAMBO has urged the farmers NOT to give false information to the Provincial Agricultural Office regarding their details.
The Minister said this in Chambeshi when he addressed the affected farmers in the Company of Mines Minister PAUL KABUSWE.
And Mr KABUSWE has assured farmers that Sino Metals will NOT resume operations until the problem is fully rectified.
He has further commended the affected families for their patience following the incident.
The two Ministers also drove to Kitwe’s Bushi Township where they interacted with residents who were drawing water from the Bowsers.
The ministers told the jubilant crowds that water supply will be restored on Tuesday this week.
