Chasefu farmers to sell 96,000 bags of maize to FRA
(NAIS ) Smallholder farmers in Chasefu district, Eastern province, are expected to sell more than 96,000 by 50 kilogram bags of maize to the Food Reserve Agency -FRA- in this year’s crop marketing.
Chasefu District Commissioner, JIMMY PHIRI says the FRA has already started buying maize from farmers.
He has explained that these are farmers, who benefited from the Farmer Input Support Programme -FISP- and the Sustainable Agriculture Financing Facility -SAFF- project.
Mr PHIRI says Chasefu is one of the districts in Zambia that have produced relatively high crop yields as the district was not severely affected by drought that destroyed crops in many parts of the country.
The District Commissioner was speaking when Eastern Province Agricultural Coordinator, ADREEN NANSUNGWE paid a courtesy call on him during the monitoring of FISP and SAFF activities in the area.
And in her remarks, Dr NANSUNGWE said the aim of her visit to Chasefu was to monitor how the maize marketing was going on and asked for support from the district.
