Chief Mumbi calls for peaceful campaigns in Petauke Central
By Joy Nyambe
Chief Mumbi of Petauke District has called for peaceful campaigns in the run-up to the Petauke Central Constituency Parliamentary by-election.
Chief Mumbi says there is a need to uphold the peace that the district has managed to maintain in previous elections.
He has observed that people who are usually ferried from outside an area where elections are taking place are the ones who usually promote violence.
Chief Mumbi said this at his palace when he received a delegation from the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) led by its Chairperson, Mwangala Zaloumis.
Ms. Zaloumis informed the traditional leader that the ECZ recognizes the important role chiefs play in the electoral process, hence involving them as stakeholders.
She said apart from the traditional leaders, the ECZ has also allocated a program for women and youths to sensitize them about their effective roles in the electoral process.
