Chieftainess Msoro sends SOS for drought-hit animals
ZANIS- Chieftainess MSORO of the Kunda people of Mambwe district has called for a drought response for wild animals that are terrorizing people as they search for food and water.
Chieftainess MSORO says while the government has come up with drought response interventions, there is a threat of food insecurity as animals are now targeting communities around Game Management Areas.
The Chieftainess was speaking when Minister of Tourism RODNEY SIKUMBA met four Chiefs from Mambwe District who included Chief Mkhanya, Chief Malama and Chief Jumbe.
Chieftainess MSORO also wants the Department of National Parks and Wildlife to deal with the growing trend of encroachments into Game Management Areas.
And, Mr .SIKUMBA says a multi-sectoral committee chaired by Vice President MUTALE NALUMANGO meets every week to look at drought response measures.
He says various interventions have been put in place such as the drilling of over 2000 boreholes across the country to improve access to water for both humans and animals.
