Chipangali man crushed by falling concrete slab

A 21-year-old man has died in Chipangali district, Eastern province, when a 600 kilogramme concrete slab fell him.

This happened yesterday around 08 hours at Chofita Mwala Limited, a company which is mining granite.

Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer, ROBERTSON MWEEMBA has confirmed and identified the deceased as KEBBY MWALE, of Kapito Farm in Tungela section area.

Mr. MWEEMBA said the deceased met his fate while loading the heavy concrete slab on a stand at the company, where he was employed as a general worker.

He explained that the deceased and his colleagues loaded 10 slabs on the stand, which however collapsed and they fell on him.

Meanwhile, Chipangali District Council Chairperson, MAXSON NKHOMA, who has visited the company, has attributed the accident to lack of proper safety measures.
