Chipata Town Clerk appears in Court for alleged corruption

Chipata City Council Town Clerk AARON KAMALONDO and Head of Procurement Department HARRIET MWAPE have appeared in the Financial Crimes Court for corruption.

The two were arrested by the Anti- Corruption Commission- ACC- and are charged with three counts of failure to follow applicable procedure and guidelines.

This is in the manner they issued invitation for bids and the way they cancelled, procurement process relating to the supply of a grader and roller compactor, without following the cancellation of procurement proceedings.

In this case, the ACC will call 12 prosecution witnesses.

And Lawyers representing the accused persons objected to the state application to file one additional document.

The State wants to file the Constituency Development Fund Guidelines as part of its documents in the matter.

Lusaka Senior Resident Magistrate TREVOR KASANDA, who is sitting in Chipata, adjourned the matter to tomorrow for ruling.

The two are expected to take plea tomorrow.
