Chitambala Mwewa appears in court after bench warrant
By Hannock Kasama
Vlogger Chitambala Mwewa has appeared before Lusaka Magistrate Kawama Mwamfuli, two months after the issuance of a bench warrant against him.
Magistrate Mwamfuli issued the bench warrant in November 2024 following Mr. Mwewa’s failure to show up as a witness in a matter where former Information Minister Chishimba Kambwili and another are charged with unlawful assembly.
Appearing before Magistrate Mwamfuli today, Mr. Mwewa tendered an apology for not being available in court previously and expressed his readiness to testify in Mr. Kambwili’s unlawful assembly case.
He told Magistrate Mwamfuli that he forgot the court’s schedule for his appearance.
Magistrate Mwamfuli has allowed an application by Mr. Kambwili not to appear for mention on February 6, 2025.
This was due to an application by defense lawyer Kennedy Mambwe.
Magistrate Mwamfuli has adjourned the case to March 6, 2025.
This is in a matter where former Information Minister Chishimba Kambwili is charged with unlawful assembly contrary to Section 74 of the Penal Code Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.
It is alleged that Mr. Kambwili and Lusaka businessman Charles Kakula, on January 26, 2023, in Lusaka, conducted an unlawful assembly with intent to commit an offense or breach of peace.
