Chitungulu Chiefdom Isolated After Heavy Rains Damage Road and Bridge
Chitungulu Chiefdom has been cut off from the rest of Lumezi district after two days of heavy rain washed away part of the Lumezi/Chitungulu road.
The Mbuzi bridge on the same road has also been partially damaged.
Lumezi Town Council Secretary, Mary Sinkala, says the most affected stretch is the Chitungulu/Bulete area near Mbuzi Village.
Ms. Sinkala, however, says the council has moved in to put remedial works to restore connectivity.
She says the council has since engaged more than 20 workers under the Cash for Work programme to assist with temporary works.
Ms. Sinkala said this during her visit to the site.
She says remedial works will include the provision of three culverts, graveling and compacting, as well as stone pitching.
Chief Chitungulu has commended the council for swiftly moving to the area to address the problem.
The traditional leader has further implored community members to work with the council to ensure the Chiefdom is reconnected to the rest of the district.
This is according to a statement issued by Lumezi Town Council Public Relations Officer Irvin Muyumbwa and made available to ZNBC News in Chipata.
