Choma Woman Arrested for Hiring Assassin to Kill Husband
A 39-year-old woman has been arrested in Choma, Southern Province, after she confessed to hiring an assassin to kill her husband.
This is a matter where the suspect, Lillian Muleya’s husband, was shot dead by an unknown person through the bedroom window as the couple was sleeping.
The incident happened on January 6, 2025, around 22:00 hours at Meeke Village in Chief Macha’s area in Choma District.
Southern Province Police Commanding Officer, Moono Namalongo, has confirmed the arrest of Muleya, who confessed to killing John Muchindu, aged 48, who was her husband.
Mr. Namalongo has said Muleya was interrogated, and she accepted having hired a gunman, only identified as Mr. Kagonkwa, of Chubo Village, Dundumwezi area in Kalomo District.
This was on suspicion that her husband had bewitched their 18-year-old daughter.
Mr. Namalongo says Muleya narrated that on an unknown date in 2024, she traveled to Kalomo where she met Mr. Kagonkwa, who agreed to be paid a cow for killing her husband.
He has explained that the alleged killer was given full information on the setup of the place where the killing was going to be done, and the time of plan execution was agreed upon.
Mr. Namalongo says on the material day, she made sure that her husband was asleep and then she left the room, leaving the window open, and went to sleep in the sitting room.
He has added that after her husband was shot, Muleya went back into the bedroom and covered him with a blanket until he died.
