COMESA endorses Zambia’s Dr. MAIMBO

The Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa – COMESA- has endorsed the candidature of SAMUEL MAIMBO as candidate for the African Development Bank –AfDB- Presidency.
The endorsement was made during the 23rd COMESA Summit of Heads of State and Government in BUJUMBURA, BURUNDI.
This is contained in a communiqué of the 23rd Summit of the COMESA Authority of Heads State and Government read out by COMESA Secretary General CHILESHE KAPWEPWE in BURUNDI.
Dr. MAIMBO was selected from seven SADC candidates.
On matters of peace and security, the Heads of State underscored the importance of peace, security and stability as prerequisites for socio-economic development and viable regional integration.
They further commended Ethiopia for commencing a national dialogue process.
The Heads of State condemned all acts of violence and hostilities in the Sudan and urged the parties to immediately and unconditionally establish a permanent ceasefire and prioritize dialogue.
They further called for an immediate cessation of hostilities by all forces in Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo and the restoration of all territory captured by armed groups.
The 24th Summit of the Authority of the Heads of State and Government will be held in the Republic of Kenya.
