Commonwealth Secretary General Praises Zambia’s Debt Restructuring Deal
By Patricia Banda
Commonwealth Secretary General Patricia Scotland says Zambia’s future is bright following the recent debt restructuring deal with international creditors.
Mrs. Scotland says the debt restructuring deal has handed the country a chance to spend the remaining resources on various national priorities.
She has also praised Zambia’s government for the country’s resilience against the effects of the 2024 drought.
Mrs. Scotland said this in Lusaka today during a public lecture on Zambia’s First President, Dr. Kenneth Kaunda, to mark his centenary posthumously.
The lecture was delivered at the University of Zambia (UNZA).
Mrs. Scotland described Dr. Kaunda as a champion of peace and democracy.
UNIP member Trevour Mwamba eulogized Dr. Kaunda for maintaining peace and stability during his 27-year rule.
Meanwhile, UNZA Vice Chancellor Mundia Muya said the public lecture on Dr. Kaunda’s legacy gave UNZA students an insight into the First President’s contribution to Zambia’s and international affairs.
