ConCourt to hear ECL eligibility
By Hannock Kasama
The Constitutional Court will tomorrow open hearing on the eligibility of Former President EDGAR LUNGU for the 2021 General Election and future ones.
This is in a matter where LUSAKA businessman MICHELO CHIZOMBE has sought the Court’s determination on whether or not Mr. LUNGU was eligible to contest the 2021 General Election.
Mr. CHIZOMBE also wants the court to determine Mr. LUNGU’s eligibility for future elections.
He has cited article 106 sub-article three of the Constitution contending that the former president was not eligible to contest the 2021 General election nor qualifies for future elections on grounds that he has held the Presidential office twice.
Mr. CHIZOMBE has maintained that the eligibility case of Mr. LUNGU must be fully determined because he has raised new Constitutional issues in his petition.
