Copperbelt University Champions Eco-Friendly Mining Initiatives
The Copperbelt University says it is actively engaged in making mining in Zambia environmentally friendly.
University Vice Chancellor, Professor Imasiku Nyambe, says the Copperbelt University is a mining university and will continue to work with the industry to promote sustainable mining.
Speaking during a meeting with the Zambia Chamber of Mines and the Canadian High Commission in Kitwe, Professor Nyambe urged the mining companies to implement more corporate social responsibility programs, such as helping the university put up more infrastructure.
Canadian High Commission Head of Office, Counselor and Consul Corry Van Gaal, said the country should look at preventing the negative impact of mining on the environment.
Meanwhile, CBU Africa Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Mining Director, Mwansa Chabala, said the university is well-equipped to handle matters of environmental pollution.
