The Cyber Security Bill has passed to the Committee Stage in the National Assembly.
This development comes after 59 parliamentarians voted in favor of the bill, while 30 voted against it.
And, in winding up debate, Technology and Science Minister, FELIX MUTATI, says all procedures were followed during the second reading.
Mr. MUTATI says it is important for the country to revise the law to strengthen the legal framework and promote a free internet society.
He has assured Zambians that the cyber space in the country is free and people are free to express themselves.
Mr MUTATI said as a democratic country, Zambia has opened up the cyber space for Zambians to share information and enjoy their democratic rights.
And Kanyama Member of Parliament, MONTY CHINKULI said the bill is important as it will help to curb negative behavior among social media users.
Earlier, Kamfinsa Member of Parliament, CHRISTOPHER KANGO’MBE and Lunte Member of Parliament, MUTOTWE KAFWAYA opposed to the Bill saying nothing has changed and will ONLY affect the liberties of people.
