DEC nabs 3 women for drug trafficking
Three female suspected drug traffickers have been arrested in separate incidents in Nyimba, Eastern Province, and Chingola on the Copperbelt.
This is in connection with the illicit importation of medicines, trafficking in prohibited substances, and possession of property reasonably suspected to be proceeds of crime.
DEC Spokesperson, Allan Tamba, has confirmed that this was during joint operations with other law enforcement wings.
Mr. Tamba says in Nyimba, Mutondo Nyanzala, aged 32, a businesswoman from the Garden House area in Lusaka, was arrested for importing over 1,600 bottles of Benylin with Codeine.
He added that the suspect was also found with 12.4 kilograms of suspected high-grade cannabis.
Mr. Tamba explained that before her arrest, the suspect had been conducting trans-national drug trafficking activities within the Southern African region.
In Chingola, Mr. Tamba says two women, who are believed to be part of a cartel known for supplying illicit drugs, were arrested.
Mr. Tamba identified the two suspects as Lizzy Chishimba, aged 50, and Yvonne Ng’andwe, aged 44, both residents of Chiwempala township.
He explained that the two suspects were found with 71 sachets of heroin as well as cash money, believed to be proceeds of crime.
